FACING EAST WORKSHOPS March 10, 2007 Ethnic Cultural

Sacred Sound
with John Wubbenhorst
The workshop will include training in ragas, done in the traditional
form of the teacher singing and the class repeating. The mystical
and esoteric effects of these ragas will be discussed. There will
also be discussion and participation with sacred rhythms and chants
from India. Testimony from some of the most distinguished modern
Indian musicians, will be presented, as well as Western examples of
Sacred Music including J.S. Bach, Hildegard von Bingen and others.
John has the unique distinction of being a fluent virtuoso on both
the Bansuri (bamboo flute) and Western flute. He has studied
traditional Indian vocal and flute music with numerous teachers
including the renowned bansuri master Hariprasad Charausia.

Ken Anoff’s Drum
Experience
An informative and
fun workshop for drummers and would-be drummers to learn and play
together under expert guidance.
Basic technique will be demonstrated, and the concepts of rhythm and
phrasing demystified through simple and clear explanations, allowing
even novice drummers to enter into the groove and enjoy the magic of
group drumming, one of humanity’s most ancient cultural heritages.
Ken is a master percussionist with 30 years of experience in many
different styles. He has performed and recorded with artists from
around the globe. A former professor of music at the University of
Maryland, Ken was continues as an active educator, teaching special
clinics and drumming workshops for schools, gatherings and special
events as well as being a core member of Facing East.
